The City of Ekurhuleni Disaster and Emergency Management Services (DEMS) swiftly responded to an urgent distress call after several buses were reported to be engulfed in flames along Vosloo Street in Jet Park, Boksburg.
According to officials, three DEMS fire stations — Boksburg Leon Ferreira, Albertina, and Primrose — were immediately activated and dispatched to the scene. On arrival, firefighters were confronted with a severe blaze involving three buses and one trailer that were already alight.
Crews wasted no time and launched a defensive firefighting operation to bring the flames under control and prevent the fire from spreading to nearby property or vehicles. Their efforts were further reinforced by the Airports Company South Africa (ACSA) Fire and Rescue team, which responded to the call for assistance with additional manpower, a rescue unit, and a water tanker to bolster water supply on-site.
Through coordinated teamwork and swift tactical intervention, firefighters managed to successfully contain the blaze. Two of the buses were salvaged and safely driven away from immediate danger, limiting the extent of potential losses.
Authorities confirmed that, fortunately, no injuries or fatalities were reported during the incident. However, Fire Safety officials have since launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the fire, which remains unknown at this stage.
The City of Ekurhuleni commended the rapid response and joint efforts of all teams involved, noting that their quick action helped prevent what could have been a much larger disaster.
